Plant of the month

Each month I choose one of my favourite plants relevant for the season. So many to choose from, so little time...

Pulmonaria ‘Blue Ensign’

Pulmonata

March has been and gone but my plant of the month is still flowering well into April.

Iris unguicularis

Iris unguicularis

Despite the wind and rain, this tough little iris has been flowering since Christmas.

Hamamelis (Witch Hazel)

Witch Hazel: Hamamelis x intermedia ‘Pallida'

A shrub that flowers in winter and stands up to anything the weather throws at it is invaluable. Witch hazel is that shrub!

Sarcococca ruscifolia (Sweet or Christmas box)

Dec potm

This is a tough evergreen that packs a punch with its scent. Just one sprig brought into the house on a chill winters day will transform a room with its sweet vanilla-like perfume.

Viburnum farerri

Viburnum farerri

My large Viburnum farerri has been looking good for some time and the white flowers will continue to bloom during mild spells throughout winter.
