January Plant of the Month
On an icy grey January day, this evergreen shrub was adding some warm tones to its surroundings. The leaves of the Leucothoe turn shades of bronze and red once the temperature drops in the autumn. Its leaves are also red when when young before turning a dark glossy green in the summer. Small white flowers appear in late spring.
A spreading shrub with arching branches and slender leaves, it grows about 1m high to 1.5m wide and likes full or semi shade and an acidic soil. Completely hardy and invaluable for winter interest.
