I knew this plant as Dicentra spectabilis. It takes me a while to get used to new names but, whatever it’s called, it’s still a beautiful, elegant plant.
Plant of the month
Each month I choose one of my favourite plants relevant for the season. So many to choose from, so little time...
Leucojum vernum (Spring snowflake)
In the garden of my childhood home in north London, what my parents called ‘giant snowdrops’ grew at the bottom of our garden and I was often tasked with picking some for a tall vase in late spring.
Lonicera fragrantissima (Winter honeysuckle)
Winter flowering shrubs have to really work to attract any early flying bees on sunny winter days.
Arum italicum ‘Pictum’
The beautiful marbled and veined leaves of Arum italicum ‘Pictum’ stand out as something unusual.
Clematis Cirrhosa ‘Freckles’
An evergreen variety with nodding flowers and droopy foliage that flowers from November to February.
