A shrub that likes a warm, sheltered position. It is hardy and can withstand low temperatures, but won’t tolerate an exposed or shady spot.
Plant of the month
Each month I choose one of my favourite plants relevant for the season. So many to choose from, so little time...
Carex oshimensis ‘Evergold’ (evergreen sedge)
A low maintenance plant that just needs a comb out of autumn leaves and a freshen up in spring.
Asarum europaeum (Wild Ginger)
A creeping, evergreen perennial that can be seen covering the floor of central European woods, as ivy does in British woods.
Crataegus monogyna (Hawthorn)
This autumn has seen plenty of berries (haws) on our native hawthorn.
Aster ageratoides ‘Ashvi’
Starting in September, these pretty white daisies are flowering en masse by October and will carry on until the onset of cold weather stops them.
