October Plant of the Month
Starting in September, these pretty white daisies are flowering en masse by October and will carry on until the onset of cold weather stops them. Like all Michaelmas daisies, they are an excellent food plant for bees and late flying butterflies.
This aster is a tough, bushy perennial that is described as compact. It certainly is upright and neat with a height and spread of 80cm, but it is a bit of a spreader rather than a clump former. That doesn’t bother me as I dig some of it up in the spring and pot it on for use in gardens or to swap with friends.
For full sun/partial shade, but I have experimented using it on a slope in quite dry semi shade and have found that it’s thrived there. A tough and hardy type!
