June Plant of the Month

This mullein is a plant I wouldn’t be without in my garden. It gives me an upright structure in the border without being too dominant. It’s also a plant that the bees love. 

From a rosette of leaves rise tall, narrow stems thickly studded with white flowers. Their eye-catching feature is the central lilac/purple stamen which gives this plant it’s unique appearance. Unlike some verbascum, this plant is a true perennial, so will grow back next summer.

Flowers June-August. Height 70-90cm, spread 50cm. This plant likes sun or part shade, well-drained soil and will set seed. Never a nuisance though!
